Ortho-K Lenses for Children

Ortho-K (orthokeratology) contact lenses work overnight to gently reshape the cornea, slowing the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) while providing clear vision throughout the day. What happens if my child stops wearing Ortho-K lenses?

No worries—if they stop using Ortho-K, their eyes will slowly go back to how they were before. Within a few days or weeks, their vision will return to their original prescription. Unlike surgery, there’s nothing permanent about Ortho-K, so you always have the option to stop if needed.

Are the lenses comfortable, and can my child handle them independently?

After a few nights, most kids don’t even notice them. Since they’re only worn while sleeping, they avoid the dryness and irritation that can come with daytime contact lenses. Most kids get the hang of putting them in and taking them out pretty quickly, but younger ones might need a little help at first. Proper hygiene and handling are important for success.
